El Umiti Exchange Internship 1+1

We are excited to announce the launch of the El Umiti Internship, a collaborative initiative by Data Lab and the Central Asia Program (CAP) at George Washington University (GWU). This unique opportunity is designed to support doctoral researchers from Kazakhstan and the United States who are dedicated to studying Central Asia's integration processes and regional dynamics.

The El Umiti Internship will support two researchers:

∙ One researcher from George Washington University (GWU) will be hosted by Data Lab in Astana, Kazakhstan, for up to three months.

∙ One researcher from Kazakhstan will have the opportunity to conduct research at CAP George Washington University (GWU) for a similar duration.

Eligibility Requirements:

∙ Doctoral degree holders: Candidates must hold a doctoral degree, awarded no earlier than 10 years before the application deadline, or current PhD students whose research is related to Central Asian countries, specifically Kazakhstan.
∙ Ability to travel and reside in Kazakhstan or the U.S. for up to three months.
∙ Proficiency in English for both Kazakhstani and U.S. candidates.
∙ Relevant professional experience in academia, government, or non-governmental organizations focusing on Central Asia is advantageous.

Research Focus:

We invite research proposals that address critical topics on Central Asian issues:

∙ Educational cooperation
∙ Healthcare systems
∙ Environmental challenges
∙ Energy Resources and regional cooperation
∙ Food and energy security
∙ Migration and labor mobility
∙ Ethnic and cultural identity

Proposals should contribute to discussions on Central Asia’s regionalization processes and explore potential obstacles to regional integration.
